The group “The Ordettes” was founded by Patti LaBelle in 1961 on. A huge hit of the girl group was "Decatur Street. In 1970 the group name changed in LaBelle and this also transformed their style in a mixture of soul, disco and funk complete with extravagant attire in the style of the “glam rock”. The biggest hit from this period was “Lady Marmalade” (Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?). In 1976 the group disbanded and Patti LaBelle started her solo career. The soul diva scores several solo hits such as the duet "On My Own" with Michael McDonald and classic ballad hits such as “If You Only Knew” and “You Are My Friend”. The successful soul singer won Grammy Awards for Best R&B Vocal Performance and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance. Although she’s widely known for classic moonstruck ballads, her diverse musical tastes have only enhanced her versatility. Today Patti continues to receive a respectful nod from the new litter of pop-pound. So was homage paid to the soul diva with a hip-hop infused rendition of the hit “Lady Marmalade”, which appeared on the soundtrack for Academy Award winning silver screen musical “Moulin Rouge”.
