Indigo Girls, aka Amy Ray and Emily Sailers, were formed in the mid-eighties and originally signed to a string of major record labels in the wake of a revived interest in folky-acoustic songwriting. They attained a respectable degree of mainstream success, without alienating their underground following, and now are back to self-releasing their music. Two radically different songwriting styles and influences make for a truly dynamic and interesting combination of talent. They are also both active in political and environmental causes.
