About the show

Following a sold-out show at TheCafé in 2025, James Morton’s Groove Den returns this April.
Groove Den is the collaborative project of James Morton, a heavyweight of Bristol’s music scene, delivering a fresh, groove-led sound rooted in soul and musical innovation. Blending jazz, funk, hip-hop, soul and rock, the unifying thread is groove and feel.
One of the most exciting saxophonists of his generation, James has performed and recorded with artists including Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley and The New JB’s, George Clinton, The Herbaliser, Kasabian, Pendulum, and the NPG Horns (Prince). He has also released two critically acclaimed albums: The Kid and Don’t You Worry ‘Bout That.
Guitarist Tony Remy has long been at the forefront of UK guitar, recording and touring with Herbie Hancock, Annie Lennox, Incognito, US3, Freddie Hubbard and Pee Wee Ellis. He also holds a monthly residency at London’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.
The lineup is completed by powerhouse drummer Chris Chikwanah and Swedish funk and soul maestro Anders Olinder on Hammond organ (Glen Hughes, Pee Wee Ellis). Expect lyrical, soulful sax, blistering guitar solos and deep, heavy grooves — a journey from New Orleans to the streets of Bristol.
On door: £15 (if available).
Tapas option: Enjoy a Mediterranean selection of warm bread, mixed Italian olives, feta cheese and sun-dried tomatoes to share.
