About the show
Directed by Carol Reed, The Third Man is the 2nd film in our festival . It’s considered to be a landmark of British cinema and film noir. It combines a cynical post-World War II European setting, innovative tilted camera angles, a distinctive zither score, a brilliant Graham Greene script, and Orson Welles' iconic performance.
Directed by Carol Reed, written by Graham Greene, and starring Joseph Cotten, Alida Valli, Orson Welles and Trevor Howard. Set in post-World War II Allied-occupied Vienna, the film centres on American writer Holly Martins (Cotten), who arrives in the city to accept a job with his friend Harry Lime (Welles), only to learn that he has died. Martins stays in Vienna to investigate Lime's death, becoming infatuated with Lime's girlfriend Anna Schmidt (Valli).
This is a great opportunity to see this groundbreaking film on the Wyndham Hall large screen, as part of this first Taunton Film festival.
Refreshments will be available before the film starts.
