About the show
'A500 Wee Gigs' are an ad hoc sideline to our Sunday evening shows, and are a series of more stripped back, afternoon events.
In 2024, we hijacked one of Gwyn Pickford's house concerts and moved it to the Village Hall. And what might have been an audience of less than a dozen people, grew to around forty when A500 favourite Wes Finch brought his trio to Fulford. Starting pretty much like these things do, this was supposed to be a one off but when Ross Harding heard of what we'd been doing, he expressed a wish to come and do a solo show along similar lines in 2025... it would have been rude to refuse.
Rather than setting up on the stage, the artists perform on the floor, which makes these events more intimate and personal, and in line with this, we dont have tables, nor do we allocate seating, it's just relaxed seating, set up to surround the artists. These smaller shows are intended to compliment our regular program and we hope to get an audience of between 30 to 40 so that they're sustainable but don't get too big for their boots. And because it's a Sunday afternoon, we wouldn't expect you to bring your own booze (but it's not prohibited)... instead, we will as usual, provide free hot drinks from the kitchen.
Those who have followed us from the beginning may remember a young band with a 'Mumford's vibe' called Speak, Brother who played a dual header with Wildwood Kin at Tittensor in 2016? This young band from Warwickshire came back to Fulford in 2019, again in a dual header, this time with rising acoustic star Joe Dolman. Following the madness of covid and changes in the band's family commitments, Speak, Brother have had a bit of a recess where the individual artists have gone on to pursue other things. What most of you probably don't know is that their keyboard player, Matt, has been supporting us by managing sound at our shows and had become an invaluable friend and member of the A500 team. So a plan was hatched to bring the band back together again for one of these small shows, and they have picked up the baton and will be making their comeback at Fulford on Sunday May 3rd.
Accompanying the band will be another young Warwickshire artist, Nora Bart, making this a mini musical extravaganza :)
Tickets for this show are just £12.50 and can be reserved by all the usual routes
Doors will be at 13:30, with music starting around 14:15, just enough time to grab yourself a cuppa?
