About the show
The Monocle is BSL interpreted and Audio Described.
Welcome to The Monocle, where nothing is impossible!
This highly virtuosic contemporary dance performance featuring the voluptuous jazz chanteuse Imogen Banks presents the untold story of Le Monocle, a secretly notorious lesbian cabaret in 1930s Paris.
Inside The Monocle the air is thick, warm and wavy with secrets and sensuality. Women laugh loudly, drink the night away and abandon themselves into smooth and passionate dances. Just for one night, be our guest at The Monocle and experience the joy of what it feels like to be in a truly safe space.
A post-show discussion with the Artistic Director and members of the cast will take place after the performance for anyone interested in learning more about the production.
Audience warning: Flashing light, haze, partial nudity (a dancer’s breast is being shown at some point during the performance.) This performance includes an act of chest binding presented as a historical reference within the context of the work’s narrative, some viewers may find this imagery distressing due to its associations with body modification and harm.
