About the show

First-time feature filmmaker Stéphane Ly-Cuong blends a heady cocktail of musical theatre, Vietnamese cuisine and second-generation tension to create a bitter-sweet musical comedy which tells the story of Vietnamese-French actress Yvonne Nguyen (played by Clotilde Chevalier) who dreams of a successful career in musical theatre, and her mother (Anh Tran Nghia) who imagines a more conventional path for her daughter. When Yvonne has no choice but to move back to her mother’s, both women are strangers to each other. But in the intimacy of the family’s Vietnamese restaurant kitchen, their bond grows closer.

Meanwhile, Yvonne is still chasing her dreams, yet when she gets the chance to audition for a big production, she finds herself torn between fulfilling her lifelong ambition and remaining true to herself.
