About the show

Join the City of Southampton Orchestra for Carl Nielsen’s First Symphony which premiered in 1894 and marked his bold and confident debut into the symphonic world. Dedicated to his wife, Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen, it showcases the Danish composer’s distinctive voice and introduces several hallmarks of his style.

The concert will also include Beethoven’s Symphony No 6 – affectionately known as the ‘Pastoral Symphony’. It is a radiant celebration of nature and rural life with each movement painting a vivid scene inspired by Beethoven’s deep love for the countryside.
