On Saturday 7 December, Live In The Library Presents... welcomes locally based contemporary folk band Bonfire Radicals.

Note that this show has been rescheduled from Fri 29 Nov due to unforeseen circumstances & tickets purchased for the original date are valid for the new date.

The electrifying sound of Birmingham’s fiery, (un)traditional folk band Bonfire Radicals is both intensely creative and irresistibly fun. Their live set is a frenzy of energy – “dynamic and high octane” (Fatea Magazine) – and captures the adventurous breadth of their musical imaginations which emerge from a melting pot of original and traditional tunes from the British Isles to the Balkans.

Their recently released album, ‘The Space Between’, was met with great acclaim and went straight into the UK Folk Charts at #13.

The band features a front line of recorders, fiddle, clarinet, and vocals set alongside a punchy rhythm section of electric guitar, bass, and drums. French melodies decorate African groves, delicate English folk song is underscored by Heavy Metal, Klezmer moves through moments of Art Rock, Brazilian drumming accompanies snapping Scottish Strathspeys…

Please note that this is a PAY WHAT YOU CAN event supported by funding from ACE (Arts Council England).

To support the show & artists the suggested advance tickets & on the door entry will be £12.00 (£8.00 concessions).

Doors open at 7.00pm & music will commence at 7.30pm.

Note that this will be a mainly seated show.

Bonfire Radicals

Bonfire Radicals appearing at this event

An unstoppable force, fresh faced and emerging from Birmingham's exciting Folk/World scene, The Bonfire Radicals is the coming together of eight inspired and talented instrumentalists. They intelligently weave together Klezmer inspired woodwind, Scottish born and bred fiddles, hard hitting guitar and bass, and global beats from the percussion into a new global sound world. It all began in 2010 when percussionists Lydia Glanville and George Kirkham decided to bring together a group of diverse players with the aim of creating something different. A few jam sessions later, and the offer a gig supporting Bellowhead's Rachael McShane at Moseley Folk Festival's legendary Lunar Society sessions, The Bonfire Radicals were born. Since then the band has gone from strength to strength.
