About the show
The Oxted Players bring to the stage R.C. Sherriff's gripping play about a group of officers serving in a dugout on the Western Front in March 1918, focusing on Captain Stanhope, a war-worn alcoholic, as he leads his company through the tense days before a major German offensive. The arrival of naive, idealistic new officer Raleigh, who knew Stanhope as a hero at school, highlights Stanhope's transformation and the psychological toll of war.
