The Future of Carnival: Community Day

Cowley Road Carnival belongs to Oxford, and we want the people it belongs to in the room as we work out what comes next.

Join us at East Oxford Community Centre on Sunday 20th September. The doors open to everyone from 1pm, and it's free. Bring your family, bring your neighbours, bring the stories you have about Carnival over the years.

Carnival has been part of this city for decades. Its heritage, its roots and its cultural significance sit at the heart of what it is, and as we build towards its return we want to make sure all of that is properly understood, celebrated and carried forward. That only happens if the people who have shaped it, danced in it, cooked for it, played at it and grown up with it are part of the conversation.

The afternoon is a chance to come together, share memories and ideas, meet the team behind Cowley Road Works, and hear where things are heading. There will also be performances from Sol Samba, Horns Of Plenty, music, activities and exhibition of Carnival history.
