About the show
Kourosh Kanani and Matt Davies are redefining the boundaries of contemporary music by weaving the rich traditions of Iran, India and Armenia into a modern jazz tapestry.
Through Kourosh's virtuosic and polyrhythmic guitar work and Matt's innovative use of electronics and rethinking of the drum kit their duo creates a powerful dialogue between important ancient cultural legacies and cutting-edge soundscapes.
Their music is both a tribute to the heritage of these diverse regions and a bold exploration of their modern relevance, offering audiences a mesmerising experience that transcends borders, time, and genre. It's a blend of tradition and innovation, rooted in jazz yet unbound by convention.
Kourosh Kanani and Matt Davies made their debut release as a duo earlier this year with their take on a Kurdish lullaby ‘Lay Laye’ featuring Amena, a multi-lingual singer and composer from Cairo, Egypt. A deeply evocative voice rooted in the traditions of the great Egyptian vocalists.
