About the show
Herbert Kilpin was the founder of AC Milan FC, one of the world's biggest football clubs. He was born in Nottingham, UK in 1870, however in 1891 he emigrated to Italy to begin a new life in the Italian textiles industry. From there he created a football club that some of the world's best footballers have played for, such as; Paulo Maldini, Gianni Rivera, Ruud Gullit, Kaka, Marco Van Basten, George Weah and David Beckham.
The Lord of Milan is a documentary film, produced by LeftLion in 2018, builds upon the 2016 novel of the same name by Robert Nieri and tracks the journey of Herbert Kilpin from Nottingham to Italy and beyond. For many years Herbert's story was forgotten and remained untold. This film uncovers new information about him, as well as the men who helped bring his memory back to life. Notable footballers who star in the documentary include Daniele Massaro, Giovanni Lodetti, Luther Blissett and Mark Hateley.
This is the first public screening of this film in Nottingham since 2019 (it’s previously been screened at Broadway Cinema and Lakeside). The film is 65minutes long and Author Robert Nieri and Director Jared Wilson will be in attendance to take part in a Q&A afterwards.
