About the show

The ever-popular Sommerville Sessions returns to Mu Mu’s, Week Street, Maidstone on Thursday 11th June. Hosted by the Award-winning Florence Sommerville, one of the UK’s most compelling new voices in country music, this show will bring the cool Nashville vibe of the iconic Bluebird Café (as featured in the NASHVILLE TV Series) to Maidstone. Joining Florence will be Liverpudlian singer-songwriter Cal Ruddy and London-based Hollie Rogers, for an entertaining evening of great songs, friendly banter, laugh-out-loud comedy, the emotional stories behind the songs and amazing vocalising. Described by Tim Martin (Fatea) as “Currently Britain’s Best Country singer,” adding: “Make sure you see her before Nashville claims her permanently,” the Essex-born Florence Sommerville was the 2025 UK Country Music Act of the Year and Female Singer of the Year award-winner at the UK Country Music Awards last September. Cal Ruddy is an award-winning and multiple award nominated Americana influenced Singer-Songwriter. He has played shows across the Merseyside area and beyond over the past 10 years, building a loyal following for his dynamic performances. Currently based in London, he has previously lived and worked for a time in Brighton. His debut album, Elliston Place, released in 2021, showcases his talent for crafting songs that resonate with listeners. He will be releasing a new album later this year. Hollie Rogers is a singer-songwriter whose expressive voice, sharp lyrics and percussive, guitar-led sound have earned her a dedicated following. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Joan Armatrading and Blondie, she crafts songs that blend emotional depth with playful charm. Her live performances are widely praised for their honesty, warmth and wit, and she is known for shows that move effortlessly between heartfelt storytelling and moments of disarming humour.
