About the show
Echoes of Rio de Janeiro’s Samba clubs and sounds of Tin Pan Alley rebound in Paul Schoenfeld’s joyful Souvenirs, ideal preface to a recital rich in expressive contrasts. Elena Urioste and Tom Poster shine light on the romantic lyricism of works by Coleridge-Taylor and William Grant Still before diving headlong into Elgar’s Violin Sonata, a score touched by personal grief and the tragedy of the First World War.
