About the show
As the unofficial patron saint of all things London, Robert has written the definitive book about the Blitz Club, the legendary club in London’s Covent Garden which was the catalyst for a cultural explosion at the end of the 1970s.
Tuesday nights at the Blitz Club in 1979 changed a whole host of worlds. They certainly changed Robert Elms and the 120 or so Blitz regulars - almost none over 23 – who went on to have a global impact as pop stars, writers, fashion designers, photographers, choreographers and artists. And still remain at the top of their tree today.
Take Boy George and Spandau Ballet, Steve Strange and John Galliano, Peter Doig and Grayson Perry, Michelle Clapton and Michael Clarke. Add in Sade and George Michael, Bananarama, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and Ultravox, and you have a cast which set the 1980s alight and set the parameters for the future.
A highly popular broadcaster on BBC Radio London, Robert Elms started out as a journalist and is the author of four previous works of non-fiction and a novel.
Keiron Pim is author of two critically acclaimed biographies, the latest of these being “Endless Flight”, a portrait of the mittel European novelist Joseph Roth.
