Jorge Drexler appearing at this event
Jorge Drexler is a musician, actor and medical doctor from Uruguay. His specialty in music is Latin Pop, in medical practice it is otolaryngology (the study of ear, nose and throat conditions). He has developed a sound that integrates a unique array of elements spanning from milonga to electronica. Drexler's unique voice, coupled with a knack for lovely melodies and lyrics of unusual depth, gained him international recognition in 2005 when he won an Oscar for “Al Otro Lado Del Río,” a song he wrote for the film The Motorcycle Diaries. After winning seven Latin GRAMMYs in 2022, the Uruguayan singer songwriter returns to the Barbican Hall with his 14th studio album Tinta y Tiempo. Anchored on his trademark poetic cosmovision and quirky wordplay, Drexler's sweeping, cinematic new album focuses on nature’s invention of love as a survival mechanism. Recorded with special guest artists Ruben Blades, C. Tangana, Noga Erez and Martín Buscaglia, Drexler's voice is both amplified and boosted by exquisite orchestral arrangements, creating a sophisticated songbook capable of evoking vulnerability, hope and wistfulness within a single verse.
