About the show
Take a trip around the world with this family-friendly concert featuring the young voices of Hackney Choral, with members of the City of London Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the beautiful light-filled church of St Mary-at-Hill.
Framed by Iain Farrington's brilliant arrangements of orchestral miniatures from around the world, the centrepiece of the programme is a performance by all the assembled musicians of John Rutter's London Town.
Born and bred in London, John Rutter wrote his charming 'choral celebration' of the capital in 2019. It sets poems by Wordsworth, Kipling and Raleigh alongside texts commissioned from the young contemporary poet, Delphine Chalmers. From Lines written in the Tower of London to Mind the Gap, you'll find all London here!
St Mary-at-Hill dates as far back as 1177 and was home to composer Thomas Tallis who served as their organist from 1538-39. Located just a stone’s throw from the Monument and Pudding Lane, where the Great Fire of London began, the church was almost completely destroyed in the fire in 1666, and beautifully rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren.
