Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, London Events

Founded by the pioneering American actor and director Sam Wanamaker, Shakespeare's Globe is a unique international resource dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare's work and the playhouse for which he wrote, through the connected means of performance and education.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is a reconstruction of the original Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse built in 1599 by the playing company Lord Chamberlain's Men, to which Shakespeare belonged.

The site also includes the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, an exquisite candlelit venue in which Shakespeare would have felt at home, named after the Globe’s visionary founder.
