City Funk Orchestra - the capital’s best and most popular funk/soul dance band plays to packed houses throughout London and the South filling music venues and getting festival audiences up and dancing. A history as a specialist opening act for the likes of Average White Band and Kid Creole and the Coconuts, 2025 saw them appearing amongst the headliners at the Saturday Love soul music festival in North London, alongside The Amy Winehouse Band at Hampton Pool Festival, whilst also opening the Friday night session before the Trevor Horn Band at the major and long-established Cropredy Festival.
The band’s sound centres around the soul and funk ‘golden age’ of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, to which these top players have added the magic ingredient of genuine authenticity. Their own CFO penned material blends seamlessly amongst the big dance floor fillers the band have made their own. Songs include the most loved tracks of Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross, Maze, SOS Band, Shalamar, Gap Band, The Emotions, alongside many rare groove picks that never fail to please soul ’n funk sophisticates … Featuring two of the best soul singers in the UK in regular lead Imaani (longtime lead singer with internationally acclaimed UK jazz funk legends Incognito, + BV’s with Chaka Khan) and the amazing Mary Pearce (Culture Club, Roy Ayres, Primal Scream) - with a funky-as-it-gets rhythm section of Nial Tompkins-guitar, Carl Hudson-keys, Matt Pegg-bass, Geoff Dunn-drums.
