About the show

The hKippers are a mixed bunch; formed 38 years ago in Stoke Newington, London, by Oscar winning composer Stephen Warbeck ,Pogues’ drummer Andrew Ranken and actor Paul Bradley. They have played many prestigious festivals including The Big Chill , Belfast, Cambridge and headlined concerts at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, and a sell-out gig at Ronnie Scott’s. Stephen Warbeck has composed music for Translations, The Silver Tassie and The Plough and the Stars at the National Theatre and is a judge on the board of the Irish Film Academy . His second feature film ‘The Man with The Urn’ which he wrote, directed and composed the music for, starring Ciaran Hinds, is currently in post-production. His wife Sarah Homer toured internationally over many years with Gavin Friday and the Man Seezer, as well as performing at The Gate Theatre,Dublin with Marianne Faithful. .The Guardian described their sound as ‘ Music At The fun end of the Cutting edge ‘. They call it Stupid World Music. The Hkippers are an eccentric 5 piece gypsy jazz band fronted by actor Paul Bradley, who played Nigel Bates in EastEnders. Musically the band is led by Stephen Warbeck on accordion, who won an Oscar for the score to Shakespeare in Love.

The band's beguiling fusion of jazz folk and world music, coupled with their surreal sense of humour received a warm reception from The Guardian, who stated that the band were known for 'tackling anything that seems like fun'.
