About the show
Veteran republican Danny Morrison first came to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s as the national spokesperson for Sinn Féin and represented Bobby Sands during the Fermanagh and South Tyrone by-election campaign. He later coined the phrase ‘the Armalite and Ballot Box’ to describe the twin-track strategy of the Republican Movement. From 1982-1996 he was banned from entering Britain. He was serving an eight-year sentence when the IRA ceasefire was called.
After his release he became a political commentator and is now a full-time writer. His latest publication, an update to his 2002 memoir ‘All The Dead Voices’, celebrates the lives of ordinary people living in often extraordinary circumstances.
Interview and discussion chaired by Roy Greenslade, former professor of journalism and author of biographies and books on the media.
