Jan Zatorsky: Prague – A Playground for David Černý

This outdoor exhibition by Czech photographer Jan Zatorsky presents David Černý’s iconic works as part of Prague’s contemporary urban landscape. Set against the city’s historic architecture, Zatorsky’s photographs reveal a different face of the Czech capital, where provocative contemporary art appears among its most familiar landmarks.

From the monumental Babies climbing the Žižkov TV Tower to the legendary Pink Tank, The Butterfly Effect and the rotating head of Franz Kafka, the photographs capture both the scale and unexpected presence of Černý’s work. Some sculptures dominate their surroundings, while others are easily missed, inviting visitors to look at Prague more closely and reconsider its familiar streets.

The exhibition complements David Černý: The Glorious 90s in Prague. Reprinted by Prusa Research, on display at Vitrínka Gallery, where Černý’s works are presented in new 3D-printed forms. Together, the two exhibitions bring different perspectives on the artist’s work to London: the gallery presents the sculptures as models, while Zatorsky’s photographs return them to their original setting.

Often described as the enfant terrible of Czech art, David Černý has shaped Prague’s contemporary visual identity like few other Czech artists.
