Tigran Hamasyan is considered one of the most remarkable and distinctive jazz-meets-rock pianists/composers of his generation.
A piano virtuoso with groove power, Hamasyan seamlessly fuses potent jazz improvisation and progressive rock with the rich folkloric music of his native Armenia.
Hamasyan’s much-anticipated new conceptual album The Bird of a Thousand Voices, set for release on Naïve/Believe in August, is inspired by an ancient Armenian tale in which a hero travels into unseen realms to find and bring back a mythical bird – whose thousand different songs will awaken people again and bring harmony to the world.
“With startling combinations of jazz, minimalist, electronic, folk and songwriterly elements…Hamasyan and his collaborators travel musical expanses marked with heavy grooves, ethereal voices, pristine piano playing and ancient melodies. You’ll hear nothing else like this” (NPR)
Award-winning Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan is surely today's most feted young jazz pianist, with fans including Herbie Hancock and Brad Mehldau. Astonishingly virtuosic and sensitive, his playing infuses traditional Armenian folk melodies with a dazzling jazz sensibility and refined melodies. 'Wistful and mystical... gentle folk melodies with dazzling instrumental variations' (The Guardian) 'Hamasyan stands out because he has something important and urgent to say' (The Daily Telegraph) '... music unlike anything else you'll hear this year' (The Times).

This new collaboration between violinist Flora Curzon and folk/experimental cellist Francesca Ter-Berg combines aspects of traditional string music from Eastern Europe with original compositions and experimental electronics. This project brings together Fran and Flora’s shared love of melodic lyricism, groove, improvisation and experimentation. Influenced by Eastern European, Middle Eastern, Celtic and Breton folk and gypsy music, Fran and Flora combine these traditions with their own unique arrangement style to create a sound that is both timeless and contemporary.
