The Best of Hot Chocolate with Kennie Simon
About the show
'We went on stage and the place erupted. They all thought it was Errol Brown. The show went down fantastically well and that night the band asked me to become their new singer. I've been with them ever since.' - Kennie Simon
Hot Chocolate are one of just three acts, alongside Elvis Presley and Diana Ross, to have had a UK chart hit in every single year of the 1970s. Twenty-five Top 40 singles. "You Sexy Thing" in the Top 10 across three separate decades. "So You Win Again" at number one in 1977. A performance at Prince Charles and Lady Diana's pre-wedding reception at Buckingham Palace in 1981. Errol Brown wrote every one of those songs. The band that played them is still touring.
Kennie Simon joined Hot Chocolate in 2010 after a career that had already taken him through Abbey Road studio sessions and Northern Soul. The way he got the job is the best story in the show: a phone call, a flight to Düsseldorf, a crowd that thought Errol Brown had walked on stage. The band asked him to stay that same night. He fronted them for sixteen years across Australia, Abu Dhabi, Europe and beyond, carrying a catalogue that needed no reintroduction to anyone in the room.
Expect "You Sexy Thing", "Emma", "Every 1's a Winner" and "It Started with a Kiss" performed by a man who knows exactly what these songs require and has spent sixteen years proving it. The voice is there. The band is live. The songs do the rest.
