About the show
A Screenshot of Now is a well timed song cycle, featuring the original music
of award winning composer and virtuosic guitarist Giacomo Susani, and text
by visionary poet and physician Chinwe D. John. This dramatic and current
song cycle, soars with two resplendent countertenors Tim Mead and
Alexander Chance, and dramatic tenor Daniel Norman. Rising star, tenor Manase Latu, will sing at the premiere.
The cycle effortlessly showcases the versatility of each of the three award
winning vocalists, by having them embody different aspects of our shared
humanity.
Capitalism, Tech, Inherited trauma, Love and Mortality, are all explored in Chinwe John's lyrics, in a way that allows for both a catharsis, and a celebration of life in all its colours.
Giacomo Susani's music has often been associated with the depiction of landscapes and
emotions. These particular qualities are especially evident in its dialogue with
Chinwe’s words. His musical imagination enhances the meaning of each
poem, by exploring a richly varied palette of timbres, able to evoke a diverse
array of settings and emotions: from cheerful joy, to mournful sorrow, from
lively dances, to moments of intense lyricism.“A smile that reflects in the eyes. A smile, from your soul to mine.” These
uplifting words brought gloriously to life by the ensemble cast, ends the cycle
on a positive note.Resilience and optimism in the midst of trial and tribulation…what could be more emblematic of our shared experience?
