Join us for Friday Night Jazz at the Atrium Bar & Restaurant, President Hotel, Russell Square. On 25 September, we are delighted to present the outstanding saxophonist Rob Townsend, accompanied by Soner Ersen (piano), Steve Watts (bass), and Tim Giles (drums).
Rob Townsend is one of the UK's most respected saxophonists, composers and arrangers, renowned for his versatility and distinctive musical voice. He has performed with leading jazz artists including Eddie Henderson, Sam Rivers, Django Bates, Mark Lockheart, Iain Ballamy and Tim Garland, while also working with Steve Hackett, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Robbie Williams. As a composer, Rob has written music for television, documentaries and award-nominated productions, alongside scores for major companies including Sony, Disney and Supermassive Games. His expressive playing, inventive improvisation and broad musical experience have established him as a distinctive voice on the British jazz scene.
Expect an evening of modern jazz featuring lyrical melodies, adventurous improvisation and outstanding musical interplay from four exceptional musicians.
Featuring - Rob Townsend
Modern jazz saxophonist Rob Townsend has spent much of his recent time touring with iconic prog-rock guitarist Steve Hackett. He also plays and records with acid-jazz Hammond legend James Taylor. Over the years Rob has performed with many great names in British jazz such as Django Bates, Iain Ballamy and Mark Lockheart as well as with USA legends such as Sam Rivers and Eddie Henderson. He is an acclaimed jazz teacher, co-leading the excellent degree jazz programme at Middlesex University in London.
Soner Ersen
Soner Ersen is a London based jazz pianist and educator. He participates in different projects as a pianist, keyboardist, composer and educator. He is currently teaching at London Music House and gigging in London and abroad with his trio/quartet.
Tim Giles
Drum-led modern jazz quartet featuring Stan Sulzmann on sax who is one of the finest players in Europe.
