The pacey, incisive and skilful forward Beardsley signed for Newcastle for a fee of £150,000 in 1983 was an instant hit with the Newcastle supporters, scoring and setting up spectacular goals. He formed an exciting strike partnership with Kevin Keegan and secured promotion to the first division where they remained during his time there. After 4 years on Tyneside he signed for Liverpool in 1987. In 1993, Beardsley rejoined Newcastle for £1.5 million after being signed by his former team mate Kevin Keegan. That season they had been promoted to the Premier League where they finished 3rd. During his second spell at St James's Park he racked up 157 appearances and scored 56 goals, bringing his overall total with the club to 321 appearances and 117 goals. He is currently employed as the Reserve Team manager of Newcastle United.
