About the show

An Evening with Liverpool Legends comes to the Empire Theatre, Liverpool 2025 starring John Barnes, Phil Thompson, John Aldridge and Peter Beardsley.

Featuring

John Barnes

John Barnes appearing at this event
There has been no finer sight in football than John Barnes in his pomp gliding down the wing. For talent and grace alone, he’s an automatic choice in any hall of fame; but his impact on the game went far beyond goals and silver. The Jamaican-born dribbler was the first high-profile black player to grace Anfield back in the 1980s, a time when racial abuse echoed around stadia across the land. A year later, the midfielder finally brought the curtain down on his illustrious Anfield career with a move to Newcastle. The qualities he possessed would have seen him walk into any of the great Liverpool sides of the past – no lesser a figure than Bob Paisley once said as much. Just as the No.7 shirt will always be associated with Kenny Dalglish, the No.10 will forever belong to Barnes.

Peter Beardsley MBE

The pacey, incisive and skilful forward Beardsley signed for Newcastle for a fee of £150,000 in 1983 was an instant hit with the Newcastle supporters, scoring and setting up spectacular goals. He formed an exciting strike partnership with Kevin Keegan and secured promotion to the first division where they remained during his time there. After 4 years on Tyneside he signed for Liverpool in 1987.

In 1993, Beardsley rejoined Newcastle for £1.5 million after being signed by his former team mate Kevin Keegan. That season they had been promoted to the Premier League where they finished 3rd. During his second spell at St James's Park he racked up 157 appearances and scored 56 goals, bringing his overall total with the club to 321 appearances and 117 goals. He is currently employed as the Reserve Team manager of Newcastle United.
