About the show
Join the community of Aymestrey for a magical winter celebration at the Aymestrey Village Wassail on Saturday, 17th January 2026. This much-loved tradition begins at 6:30pm at the Parish Hall, where participants gather before a spectacular torchlit procession to the Ancient Orchard at Aymestrey Mill.
Bring along drums, saucepans, or any musical instruments and help create a joyful, good-natured racket to wake the trees, encouraging a healthy apple harvest in the year ahead. The orchard comes alive with music, lanterns, and community spirit as the Wassail Ceremony unfolds, complete with lively singing and time-honoured customs.
After the ceremony, warm up with mulled cider, hot food, and plenty of festive atmosphere. A highlight of the evening is the cutting of the Wassail Cake, kindly provided by Aymestrey Patisserie.
Guests are encouraged to dress warmly, wear sturdy footwear, and even don a feather for luck. Lanterns and torches are very welcome to add to the enchanting glow of the night.
This wonderful event raises funds for St John the Baptist & St Alkmund Church, Aymestrey Parish Hall, and other local causes. Come and be part of a truly unique countryside tradition!
