Leeds Grand Theatre & Opera House opened in November 1878. Built on a site of approximately three quarters of an acre, the theatre cost a total of £62,000 and took 13 months to build. It is widely regarded as a major milestone in Victorian theatre building.
Stars to have trodden the boards over the years have included Sarah Bernhardt, Laurence Olivier, Marie Lloyd, Julie Andrews, Sean Connery and Morecambe and Wise.
The Grand Theatre prides itself on entertaining the people of Leeds and the surrounding areas with spectacular West End musicals, drama, comedy and music and also offers Theatre Tours giving visitors the chance to go behind the scenes, see where the magic happens, and learn the secrets of this grade II listed building.
As well as housing The Howard Assembly Room it is the home venue for both Opera North and Northern Ballet.
