About the show

The Long Play Sessions presents a very special evening with Clint Boon, musician, broadcaster, DJ and keyboard player/songwriter with the legendary Inspiral Carpets, celebrating his new book The Manchester Chronicles: True Tales of Music, Madness and Mayhem 1976–2006.

Described by Guy Garvey as “the greatest rock and roll book ever written”, it’s Clint’s highly personal journey through three extraordinary decades of Manchester music.

From punk and the city’s 1980s indie and psychedelic underground through Madchester, rave, and Britpop, Clint was there as Manchester became one of the most important musical cities in the world. Expect brilliant stories of rehearsal rooms, tiny venues, Top of the Pops, life on the road and encounters with Buzzcocks, Joy Division, The Fall, New Order, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Elbow and Oasis.

Join us for an intimate book talk, conversation and audience Q&A, with the chance to hear the stories behind the book directly from one of the defining characters of the Manchester music scene. Clint first found fame creating the unmistakable organ sound of Inspiral Carpets, and has since become a familiar broadcaster, DJ and passionate champion of Manchester music.
