Eden Lafone Duo at Ilminster Arts Centre
About the show
Joanna Eden returns to Ilminster Arts Centre by popular demand bringing with her Memories of Montevideo tour alongside Uruguayan co-writer and husband, bassist Andrés Lafone.
Described by Claire Martin as the “jewel in the crown of the UK jazz scene”, hailed by Dame Cleo Laine as “bloody marvellous”, and praised by Jamie Cullum as “brilliant”, Joanna Eden’s influence reaches far and wide. Global superstar Sam Smith credits Eden as “the reason I sing... she inspired me to start writing”, recently calling their duet at the BBC Proms “a career high”.
This May, Joanna Eden released, The Road to Paysandu, the singer-songwriter's 7th original album and she has just returned from her fourth trip to Uruguay in South America which was her source of inspiration for the new original songs on this very special album with a jazzy latin twist!
Joanna’s new husband and long-time musical collaborator, bassist and songwriter Andrés Lafone, is Uruguayan. Their first trip to the country – nestled between South American giants Brazil and Argentina – sparked a creative journey, with the couple writing songs inspired by a place that, like Joanna herself, is enigmatic, often overlooked, yet quietly remarkable.
