About the show

Join us for an evening of outstanding live music in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support! Headlining the concert is Vermont based singer-songwriter, Dana Robinson, with local favourites, Druce and Jones opening the show.

Whilst Dana’s music has in roots in old time Americana, country blues and folk, his own work is constantly evolving, as demonstrated by his most recent album, The Sound of the Word. Unsurprisingly, Dana’s touring on both sides of the Atlantic has cemented his reputation as a fine and insightful songwriter for the ages.

Emily Druce has been performing on the UK acoustic circuit since 1996, both solo and in a duo with Steve Jones. Multi-instrumentalist Emily started playing violin at an early age and took up guitar in her teens. Steve, himself a fine musician and Luthier, shares Emily’s passion for country blues. Both have had extensive national airplay and also appeared live on Radio 2 and 4.

Since 1911 Macmillan has been at the forefront of supporting people with cancer, as well as their families. Their work encompasses everything from cutting edge research to the practicalities of delivering front line services, yet 98% of Macmillan’s funding relies heavily on public donations and fundraising events. The musicians have generously waived their performance fees and the venue has provided free event space, so that as much money as possible can go to Macmillan.

The concert venue is the stylish and welcoming Sixth Fiend Taphouse, 23 Carr Lane Slaithwaite, HD7 5AG, just along from the centre of the village. Wheelchair accessible.

Dana Robinson appearing at this event

From Vermont (USA), Dana Robinson is a songwriter, guitarist and old-time fiddler who combines a warm, openhearted singing style, with wry humour and astute observations about community and place. For over 30 years, Dana has been a fixture on the folk and acoustic music scene in the United States and the UK, playing his unique blend of songwriting with traditional influences.

Dana’s guitar playing combines British fingerstyle and Appalachian flat-picking to create his own distinctive style. Dana’s lyrics delve deep into the natural world with wonder, hope and connection earned through his years of travel and exploration across America’s rural landscapes.

Celebrating the release of a brand-new solo album “The Sound of the Word“ in 2026.

“It’s early days, I know, but I reckon that The Sound Of The Word might just be the best thing I’ve heard so far this year…” At The Barrier “It’s just the kind of music-making and song-making that keeps the past alive in the present.” Songlines

“A poet´s perspective delivered in quietly spectacular musicianship ...the music sounds laid back even while his guitar licks are knocking your socks off.” Music Matters
