About the show
Absolutely Belting Comedy launches at Woodside Hall on Saturday 14th November! A new monthly comedy club, bringing people together for brilliant live stand-up and a bloody good night out!
And we’re kicking things off with PAUL SINHA. You’ll know him from The Chase and Taskmaster, but behind the white suit is an acclaimed, award-winning comedian with decades on the stand-up circuit. Come and see him doing what he does best, right here in Hitchin.
“Hilariously funny, passionate and articulate.” — Chortle
Joining him:
Olaf Falafel — Edinburgh Fringe Best Joke winner, master of the surreal and, by his own reckoning, Sweden’s eighth funniest comedian. Expect sharp one-liners and gloriously daft nonsense.
Two rising stars — we love introducing audiences to their next favourite comedians. Names announced soon. Catch them early. Brag about it later.
MC Ben Van der Velde — quick-witted, warm and brilliantly inventive. A regular at The Comedy Store and other leading clubs, Ben’s improvisation and playful audience interaction will keep the whole night fizzing.
We don’t just put on comedy nights. We build comedy clubs.

Featuring - Paul Sinha

Paul Sinha is a qualified GP and international stand up comic of many years standing, having performed in all major comedy clubs in the UK, as well as China, Auckland, Singapore, the Middle East, South Africa, Netherlands and Germany.
Paul's second full length solo show 'Saint or Sinha' received widespread critical acclaim at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was nominated for the if.comedy award (formerly the Perrier).
Since then Paul has been in great demand, whether on TV shows such as Edinburgh and Beyond, World Stands up, Comedy Shuffle and Comedy Cuts, on Radio 4's Loose Ends and the Now Show, or his numerous contributions to Radio 5 Live and Talksport, as well as having recorded for Shane Warne's Ashes podcasts.
'Wonderfully inventive and intelligent’ (Evening Standard)
'One-liners are delivered with the crisp clarity of cut glass. Highly original' (Metro)
'Universal anecdotes as warmly delivered as you would find anywhere... it's a
pleasure listening to him... Opinionated, witty and smart – Sinha is the certainly one of the comics Fringe goers should be flocking to' (Chortle)
'His confidence on stage was excellent and his talent for adlibbing and summoning gags off the cuff were very funny' (BBC Online).
Olaf Falafel

A unique mixture of one-liners and Scandinavian-tinged stories has earned Olaf the purely fictitious title of 'Sweden's eighth funniest comedian'.
His exploits include being crowned Hitchin, Stroud and Last Minute Comedy new act of 2013, Winning Ricky Grover's Comedy Shuffle Showdown, supporting the equally moustachioed Tony Law and managing to beat the Comedy Store's infamous Gong.
'He's like Thor but way funnier and with a smaller hammer' (Tony Law)
'Skilfully delivered absurdist musings' (Three Weeks).
Ben Van Der Velde

Ben Van der Velde is a stand-up comedian, actor, improviser and presenter, who, over the past few years, has spread joy and nonsense to all four corners of the British Isles, as well as Greece, Switzerland, Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Norway.
He is a regular host and act for respected British comedy clubs such as The Comedy Store, The Stand, Komedia, The Backyard, Covent Garden Comedy Club, Outside the Box, the Frog & Bucket, Comedy Club 4 Kids, Off the Kerb and The Comedy Café, as well as hosting stages for Bestival, Festival No.6 and Sunday Papers Live. He has also founded the Church of the Holy Kazoo with comedy legend Mark Thomas, walked the entire London Underground network to raise money for The Refugee Council and even took part in experiments at The Royal Society that revealed him to have the most infectious laugh of any human, rat or monkey.
Ben is a regular performer at the Edinburgh Festival, where he has performed four critically-acclaimed shows: Chain Letter, Strudelhead, Barbarians and Sidekick. In 2016 his most recent show received 5 and 4 star reviews, whilst several of jokes made it into lists of ‘Best Joke at the Fringe’ compiled by The Scotsman, i-News and The Huffington Post.
Ben has amassed a few residencies as an MC; most notably at Really Lovely Comedy and the legendary Free Beer Show, where he has featured alongside acts such as Omid Djalili, Reginald D. Hunter, Sarah Millican, Jim Jefferies and Andrew Maxwell . Ben is currently helmsman of the Chortle Award-winning Good Ship Comedy Club in Camden Town, where he can be seen spinning webs of nonsense and good humour every Monday from 8pm.
