About the show
Welcome to the 2026 season of Sunday Coffee Concerts at Spring Bank Arts. We're delighted to welcome back many familiar faces and bring you a varied repertoire of concerts including some lesser-known works by English and Czech composers alongside the great Romantic composers Brahms and Dvorák.
First up on March 8th is a wonderful programme of works for string ensemble. Vaughan Williams wrote his Phantasy Quintet in 1912 for a composition award. It highlights his love of both Renaissance English music and folk music. Coupled with this piece is the great string sextet opus 36 by Brahms - a work full of longing, melancholy and joy in which he enshrines the name of one of his great loves, Agathe, in musical notation.
Performed by
Caroline Pether & Rosemary Attree - Violins
Alistair Vennart & Raymond Lester - Violas
Nicholas Trygstad & Dale Culliford - Cellos
