Folkestone Songwriting Festival are excited to present a day for artists, producers, promoters and anyone interested in understanding just what the concept of Indie actually means and how it works in partnership with Kent based independent music label owners Rob Pursey (Skep Wax) and Ian Button (Gare Du Nord) will be hosting a day celebrating and discussing how to navigate the music industry as an independent artist and business.
Rob and Ian have maintained not only continual careers for over four decades making relevant and inreresting music, maintaining a dedicated fan base and selling out tours home and abroad, they also have their fingers on the pulse signing new artists and putting out their music.
How do they fo it? Come along and hang out with them and their band mates discussing all things you might need as an independent and how they craft the songs they perform.
We will be looking at :
Creating an independent ecosphere…. A discussion of how we’ve pooled resources so we can do most things the ‘industry’ does, without relying on the ‘industry’. With specific reference to freeing yourself from the Spotify ‘economy of likes’. Q and A included.
2. Rob Pursey and Amelia Fletcher (Skep Wax). Running an independent label. What it takes, and where it gets difficult. Q and A included
3. Swansea Sound. How a song is put together, with live demonstration of the various parts.
This will be followed by a late afternoon gig with Rochester indie rockers High Span will open up before the amazing Seansea Sound take to the stage.
