It’s Summer 1980. Electro-pop is topping the charts, unemployment is at an all-time high and Maggie rules the waves. Best friends, Gary and Simon have just left school. They are 16-years-old and destined to spend their lives down at Felixstowe Dock. But, over the next ten years, relationships, family crises and work challenges blow their worlds apart.
Will Gary’s moped skills win him the dock runner job? Will Simon get to drive a Beemer? Will Angie escape the canteen? Will Katie leave Felixstowe for the bright lights of London?
This funny and poignant new 70-minute play by local writer Karen Goddard is based on interviews with retired Felixstowe dockworkers.
After the performance, there will be a short interval followed by the chance to take part in a Q&A session with the writer and actors. The company would love to hear your own stories of working at Felixstowe Dock – so come prepared to share your memories!
