About the show

On 5th April 2026, at the magnificent Queen’s Hall, Red Events presents a luminous Edinburgh premiere — Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, performed by the worldwide-acclaimed Belgian ensemble La Chapelle Sauvage under the direction of Karel De Wilde, featuring soprano Abigail Barker and countertenor Gleb Zakharov as soloists.

This Easter offers a once-in-a-generation moment.

In 2026, we mark 290 years since Giovanni Battista Pergolesi composed Stabat Mater — a work written in the final weeks of his life and forever associated with the Easter season. To hear this sacred masterpiece during Easter, in this anniversary year, is a unique opportunity to experience Stabat Mater exactly as it was intended: as a deeply human meditation on grief, faith, and transcendence.

La Chapelle Sauvage is an artistic house with many rooms. It saw light by the impulse of the Belgian conductor Karel De Wilde as a teamwise and international initiative of young professional musicians coming from all over the world. What gathered them is a wild and untameable musical ambition with a contemporary, critical and reflective attitude.
