About the show
Threeway came into being in May 2004 over the breakfast table after Waterman, Lodder and Crosland had, the previous evening, played for a significant family function at the home of two of Crosland’s closest friends.
The feeling was that there was real compatibility between them and something new and exciting could emerge within the context of a chamber jazz trio without drums. Over the course of the ensuing 19 years, the band has recorded three albums and have played festivals and club dates across the country, engaging audiences with their attractive brand of melodic, fresh sounding, subtle jazz, the material largely written by all three band members, all the while developing the intense interplay between the players that so characterises the group’s identity and sound.
Rob Luft is an award-winning 32-year-old jazz guitarist from London whose virtuosity has been compared to that of six-string legends John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola & Paco De Lucia. He was the recipient of the 2016 Kenny Wheeler Prize from the Royal Academy of Music, and he also received the 2nd Prize in the 2016 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition at Montreux Jazz Festival. His debut album, “Riser”, was released on Edition Records in 2017 to widespread acclaim from the European jazz media.

Over the course of 20 years, the band has recorded three albums, Conversations, Songs of the Year and Looking Forward, Looking Back, which have all garnered significant critical acclaim and received airplay on a number of radio stations including BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM and UK Jazz Radio.

Rob Luft
Winner of the 2016 "Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize", awarded to one Royal Academy of Music graduate of exceptional ability each year, guitarist Rob Luft has already worked with some of the highest profile artists on the UK jazz scene. He's toured Europe with his own "Deco Ensemble" and is a member of several bands including Byron Wallen's "Four Corners", has performed with Gregory Porter, Hamish Stuart & Liane Carroll, and came in second in the 2016 Montreux Jazz Guitar competition. His debut album, “Riser”, was released in July 2017, to widespread critical acclaim from the European jazz media. John Fordham wrote in The Guardian that it’s a “very sophisticated debut, but given Luft’s old-soul achievements since his early teens, we should have heard it coming”.
