This Coen Brothers film – probably their most well-known – is thirty years old. An ideal time, therefore, to bring it back to the big screen at The Eclectic Cinema. What’s more, a good half of respondents to our recent survey said they would like to see it.

McDormand plays Marge, a local police chief (heavily pregnant) investigating a kidnapping that has gone horribly wrong. Macy plays Jerry, the car-salesman in financial difficulties, who has planned the kidnapping. Buscemi plays Carl, who, together with his accomplice Gaear, ensure that the kidnapping plan goes horribly wrong. Of course, blood is spilled - in the snow. A homespun story this may be, but it’s one that has become a cult classic.

The film premiered at Cannes where it garnered the highest award for the Coens’ directorial efforts. McDormand subsequently won an Oscar for her performance. Married to Joel Coen in 1984, she is a regular collaborator in Coen Brothers’ movies.
