About the show
With her electrifying performances, vibrant stage presence and magnetic personality, celebrated saxophonist Jess Gillam has been invited to play on the world’s major stages since becoming the youngest ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. Her award-winning weekly show, This Classical Life, on BBC Radio 3 is now in its seventh season.
As part of a trio with piano and bass, she weaves together a programme of fantastic lesser-known repertoire with fresh takes on some firm favourites.
From jazz influences with music by composers such as Sidney Bechet and Barbara Thompson, to baroque energy from Corelli and Telemann, this programme has something for everyone to enjoy.

Jess Gillam has been described by Snake Davis as 'one of the best young saxophonists in the UK'. A woodwind category finalist in the BBC Young Musician 2014, Jess was awarded the prestigious Walter Todd Bursary at the final and has shared top billing with Courtney Pine at a Jazz concert in her home town of Ulverston.
