About the show
World renowned vocal ensemble The Gesualdo Six bring the chilling music and biography of composer Carlo Gesualdo to life in an exceptional multi-media concert directed by Bill Barclay with choreography by Will Tuckett.
Following the success of Secret Byrd, Death of Gesualdo sees The Gesualdo Six collaborate once more with Bill Barclay’s Concert Theatre Works to tell the story of troubled madrigalist Carlo Gesualdo (1566 – 1613).
Gesualdo may be most famous for murdering his wife and her lover in bed, but among composers he is revered for anticipating chromaticism by 200 years.
'Six actors join the singers on stage to tell Gesualdo’s dark, troubled story through puppetry, dance and tableaux vivants reminiscent of Renaissance paintings to a score of some of Gesualdo’s darkest music, including Tenebrae (a mass for the composer’s own death), performed with the Gesualdo Six’s renowned “supreme precision".' (Evening Standard)
‘The staging, singing and acting are sublime’ (The Times ★★★★★)
