A Jazz Portrait of George Gershwin
James Pearson - piano
Tim Boniface - tenor and alto sax
Jeremy Brown - bass
Steve Brown - drums
Following their sellout at last year?s festival, internationally renowned pianist extraordinaire James Pearson and acclaimed Cambridge-based saxophonist Tim Boniface team up again for another swinging evening. As the musical world celebrates 100 years of George Gershwin?s Rhapsody in Blue, James and Tim invite you on a journey into the vast array of songs by the great composer that remain at the heart of the mainstream jazz repertoire. From the old favourites to lesser played numbers, the evening will be a sparkling celebration of Gershwin?s gift to jazz and the musicians who interpreted his compositions.
One of the most highly respected and versatile pianists in the UK, James Pearson?s signature virtuosity and showmanship is a wonderful match for the classically swinging sound of Tim Boniface?s tenor and alto saxophones. Joining these two irrepressible performers are Jeremy Brown, indisputably one of Britain?s top jazz bassists and choice for some of the greatest jazz stars on their tours to the UK, and Steve Brown, an equally ubiquitous presence on the UK jazz scene - longtime drummer for the great Scott Hamilton and collaborator with such luminaries as Art Farmer, Benny Golson, Harry Edison and Benny Green.
