The Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra, was launched in May 2012 in St Edmundsbury Cathedral as part of the 2012 Bury Festival. Since then it has performed a series of major orchestral concerts to capacity audiences at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds, small-orchestra concerts in Long Melford and Sudbury, given nine Community Concerts in Suffolk villages, and worked with children and young people in a number of schools. Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated its third anniversary with a return to St Edmundsbury Cathedral in May 2015 for a programme of Wagner, Beethoven, and Saint-Saens. The SPO has twice won Arts Council England funding, and is supported by a number of grant-making trusts, businesses, and a growing list of Friends.
