When it was first published in 1919 ‘The Journal of a Disappointed Man’ by W.N.P. Barbellion divided opinion, some took it to be a work of fiction, others thought it a self absorbed obscenity, a discerning few recognised it as something truly original. Today ‘The Journal of a Disappointed Man’ is recognised as a precursor to some of the giants of 20th century literature.

Tim Rolt’s introductory talk will shed light on this still undeservedly little known author from Barnstaple and will include dramatised excerpts from his unique journal.
