About the show
With over 40 years of adventures on the musical ocean to their name, these two mainstays of The Men They Couldn’t Hang come laden with a wealth of stories, songs and anecdotes; from the hilarious, the poignant and the genuinely historic.
From fighting the Punk Rock Wars to playing with The Clash; from early 80’s squatting and busking to playing with Bowie and the Pogues, from surreal jaunts to Egypt and Iceland to bizarre encounters with the Music Industry and a ring side view of the last forty years of rock and roll carnival; Odgers and Simmonds bring not only the songs and stories, but also the lives lived in the lottery of good and bad luck.
Some say you won’t find the answers in the bottom of a glass. But perhaps in our interactive format you’ll find the questions! : )
This promises to be a heartwarming celebration of simple human spirit; a chance to laugh, sing, relax and partake. Bring your dancing ears.
This is a matinee show in Fletchers Bar (7 York Road)
Featuring
Phil Odgers
Best known as one half of the legendary joint vocal strike force of The Men They Couldn’t Hang, Phil Odgers strikes out on his own. Sharp songwriting - a journey through kitchen sink realism and social commentary. Phil's warm melodic voice and rhythmic strumming acoustic guitar take centre stage throughout, aided and abetted by fiddle, double bass and lead guitar in all the right places.
