Open to intermediate to advanced players This workshop offers concertina players the opportunity to further develop technique, repertoire and musical expression within the Irish traditional style. Lorraine will focus on tune structure, phrasing, rhythm and ornamentation, with practical guidance suited to more experienced players. Participants should be comfortable with the basics of the instrument and ready to explore more detailed aspects of traditional concertina playing in a supportive and musically focused environment. Lorraine Ní Bhriain is a concertina player and teacher from County Clare, now based in Belfast, with deep roots in the Irish traditional music tradition. Growing up in one of Ireland’s most influential musical regions, she developed a strong connection to the Clare concertina style, known for its lift, rhythm and clarity. Now an active part of Belfast’s traditional music community, Lorraine brings together the musical sensibilities of Clare and the energy of a thriving urban trad scene. Her playing is characterised by a strong rhythmic drive, sensitivity to melody, and a thoughtful approach to tune interpretation. Alongside her work as a performer, Lorraine is a dedicated and experienced teacher, known for her clear, supportive teaching style.
