Art historian and biographer James Hamilton brings to life the business of culture in 19th-century Britain in this illustrated talk. He investigates the exchange between culture and business at a time when Britain became a centre for world commerce. It is a world peopled by the likes of Turner Constable Landseer Coleridge Wordsworth and Dickens but also by patrons financiers collectors industrialists lawyers publishers dealers auctioneers hostesses brothel-keepers charlatans and quacks.
