Artists' Studio: Sarah Taylor Silverwood

Birmingham-based artist Sarah Taylor Silverwood has a practice grounded in drawing, narrative and landscape. She interweaves historical material with comic book and pop culture imagery, allowing intertextual narratives to emerge. The layering of ephemeral materials such as envelopes, maps and pages torn from old books create surfaces that are rich with references.

The larger than life female characters that underpin many of the stories represented in the Gallery's archive will provide a focus for Sarah's extended residency in the Artists' Studio, culminating in a large scale work for The New Art Gallery Collection and a Long Gallery display to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of the opening of the Garman Ryan Collection
